Things to do in and around Mangawhai.

Beaches. One of the main attractions of the Mangawhai area is the range of wonderful beaches. Ideal for swimming, surfing, fishing,Beach at Te Arai looking north to Mangawhai playing games or just relaxing in the sun while reading a book. The surf beach at Mangawhai Heads is great for swimming, surfing & walking, while the estuary offers several more sheltered locations for swimming, kayaking and fishing. Further afield there are numerous superb beaches including Langs Beach to the north and Te Arai to the south.

Golf. The golf club at Mangawhai Heads is a magnificent 18 hole links course which welcomes visitors from all parts of the world.

Fishing. A range of options are available for novice and experienced anglers. Surf casting from the surf beach is often productive while fish can readily be caught from the shore or kayak in the estuary. The Heads is a popular spot for offshore anglers and boats of all shapes and sizes head out over the bar in search of snapper, kahawhai and other, more exotic species. There are a number of companies offering fishing charters.

Wineries. Mangawhai is a relative newcomer to the wine making business but there are now two award winning wineries within a few kilometers. Both are open for tastings and wine sales but it pays to contact them in advance to confirm opening hours.

Chocolate Factory. The Bennetts chocolate factory at Mangawhai Village offers a unique opportunity to see chocolates being made and to sample their wares.
